There are many reasons why people want 4x4 truck tires. They live out in rural areas, muddy and rocky areas, they enjoy off-road activities or they simply want the assurance of having quality off-road tires if they ever get "stuck" somewhere or it gets extremely muddy. Originally, tires for 4x4 vehicles were only made narrow, strong and very aggressive so that they could get the most grip and cut through slick, muddy surfaces. With the advancement in off-road activities and 4x4 vehicles, the tires also made changes.

Everyone's need for 4x4 truck tires varies from individual to individual. So, when considering and even buying new 4x4 tires, you'll need to consider these factors. How often you'll be going off-road, the climate and weather conditions in the area in which you live, the size of the tire including the side wall, tread design and price. The most popular driven tires for 4x4 vehicles are the All Terrain tires. These tires do fine on the highways, except for it's noisier and bumpier. This is due to the open and wide tread design on the tire. They are made like this so that they can grip and find traction on rough, rocky, sandy and muddy terrain. So, they're on road and off road tires. If you're mainly staying on the highways, then All Purpose tires (commonly called "street" tires) would be appropriate.

If you live in an area where it gets pretty muddy and snowy, having 4x4 truck tires can help you prevent getting stuck. If you live in rainy, wet states, then you'd want wet-weather tires. You also want tires that are an appropriate size for your vehicle. You don't want too big or too small. It could do more damage than you want. The size also affects the kind of ride you'll have too. Smaller, narrower tires cut through slick surfaces better whereas larger and wider tires do better in heavy cement-like mud and over rocky surfaces. You want a higher profile tire too, which means a larger size sidewall (the gap between the rim and the edge of the tire). It will reduce bumpiness and damage to the tires.

You'll also want 4x4 truck tires that have a good quality tread design. This will either make the tire or break it. It if has a good design it will also have the capability to self-clean, which will give better traction and grip. Last of all, remember you have a budget, but good quality tires mean good quality driving on road or off road!
